  • Building Futures is a collaborative initiative led by the Build Alberta Apprenticeships Foundation, working alongside local school divisions, homebuilders, and industry professionals. The program is designed for Grade 10 students interested in gaining real-world experience, practical skills, and mentorship in residential construction. Students get the opportunity to build a home from the ground up, while earning high school credits

  • The program runs during the Grade 10 school year. Each cohort follows the full home construction cycle—from foundation to finish—within the academic calendar. The program is currently active and expanding to new school divisions across Alberta. Students attend class directly on the construction site in fully equipped learning spaces, while receiving on-site training from builders and tradespeople.

  • The program empowers students to explore career pathways in the skilled trades, helps address labour shortages in Alberta’s construction sector, and promotes community collaboration. It also boosts student engagement by connecting classroom learning to real-life applications, helping them discover their strengths and passions early on.
